A view of the South Crater. You can just make out some people crossing the valley floor. Mt. Ngauruhoe (the cone to the left), is a parasitic vulcano to Tongariro. This can be summitted, however, due to our late start, my hiking partner and I decided to skip it. This was "Mt Doom" in Lord of the Rings. Tongariro National Park- North Island NZ
